Police chase sends Fremont man to hospital

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A Fremont man who led Steuben County police on a chase near the Fremont Industrial Park is recovering at a Fort Wayne hospital after the chase ended with a crash.

Deputies were called by someone who said they had witnessed a man in a black truck steal a neighbor’s generator near County Roads 200 E and 100 N. The witness followed the truck until police caught up with it near the industrial park, which is when they say 25-year-old Jesse Powell refused to pull over and led police on a brief chase.

It ended when he drove into a nearby wooded area and crashed into several trees. Powell was arrested and airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment. A generator found at the scene was confirmed to be stolen.

The incident is still under investigation.
