Police Investigate Child Death and Standoff in Elkhart County

ELKHART, IN– A child is dead and a suspect is in custody following a long weekend standoff in Elkhart County… The police say they got a call that a man had threatened to hurt his two children so they tried to conduct a wellness check. Deputies attempted to contact the man and learned that he was armed and threatening law enforcement officers. SWAT arrived shortly after midnight and the man barricaded himself in the home and fired his weapon. Other details are still pending, but Elkhart County Homicide and the Indiana State Police are investigating due to the child’s death. Meanwhile, 37 year old Ryan Snyder has been taken into custody.
