SPENCERVILLE, Ind. (AP) – Indiana State Police have released the name of a northeastern Indiana who died when he crashed his Jeep while fleeing officers.
Officers say 27-year-old Casey Allen May died Monday morning on a rural DeKalb County road about 20 miles northeast of Fort Wayne.
They say a DeKalb deputy sheriff responding to a call went to a home and had been talking to May through a window before he drove the Jeep through a garage door, collided with the deputy’s patrol car and sped away.
A second DeKalb deputy sheriff took up the pursuit, which lasted about a mile before the Jeep left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.
Officers say May died at the scene.
