Primary voters pass school referendums

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Voters were kind to Fort Wayne Community Schools and Southwest Allen County Schools Tuesday night.

Both were looking for extensions on property tax referendums, and both saw them pass by wide margins.

Fort Wayne Community Schools officials were asking for voters to renew a measure that would pay $130-million for repairs and security improvements at 42 buildings, and it was approved with 72% of the vote.

Southwest Allen County Schools officials had said repeatedly that if their referendum wasn’t renewed, they’d have to cut 52 jobs, most of them teachers. 75% of voters approved the renewal.
