Red Cross Planning New Indianapolis Headquarters

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis is working on plans for a new $10 million headquarters building.

The two-story, 44,000-square-foot building is being planned for a site that is a currently a vacant car dealership 15th and Meridian streets north of downtown Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Star reports the move comes as the organization is selling its current headquarters for $8 million to the city, which plans to build a new downtown fire station at the location.

Indianapolis Red Cross chief executive John Lyter says the group is working to raise about $4 million from donors. He says he's confident of success with that fundraising.

Lyter says he hopes construction can start this year.
