CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP): Thirty years ago today, the space shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after liftoff, killing all seven astronauts aboard, including teacher Christa McAuliffe.

The families of those lost will gather today with NASA to mark the anniversary.

And making a rare appearance will be McAuliffe’s son Scott, who now has his own family.

Christa’s husband Steven is a federal judge in Concord, New Hampshire, and still declines interviews about his late wife.
