Rome City Homes Evacuated After Lake Levels Rise

ROME CITY, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say flooding on the West Lakes in Noble County has forced some residents to evacuate their homes.

Noble County Emergency Management Director Michael Newton says residents of at least four homes on the West Lakes near Rome City have voluntarily evacuated after water levels rose over the weekend because of recent heavy rains.

Newton says water has surrounded several houses, probably causing some damage, but officials won't be able to fully survey the scope of losses until water levels recede. Other homes were evacuated because a sewer system was shut down.

Newton says the Red Cross has established a shelter for residents who have been evacuated but no one had checked in as of Monday morning.
