Settlement Reached in Huntertown Sewage Plant Saga

HUNTERTOWN, Ind. (WOWO): The ongoing saga with Huntertown and Eel River Township residents over sewage may be reaching an end soon.

Residents of the township have been opposed to a proposed sewage plant that Huntertown is planning on building because of discharge that would flow into the Geller Ditch, which frequently floods into farmers fields. Huntertown wants to build the $14 million plant because it wants to branch away from a pricey sewage treatment agreement with Fort Wayne.

The Journal-Gazette is now reporting that a settlement has been reached with Huntertown and township residents that could clear the way for construction to begin. The settlement deals with county and local oversight as well as state involvement should the plant ever need to expand.
