FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A major renovation comes to a northeast Fort Wayne neighborhood. Wednesday City leaders and neighbors near Georgetown Square showed of improvements to a 14-block area near Haley Elementary School on Maplecrest Road.
It's the latest in a multi-year effort that repaves, repairs and improves city streets, sidewalks and other concrete work. More than $45 million has been pumped into city streets in the past two years.
The project also includes wider sidewalks and new traffic signals at Monarch Drive.
This project, totaled about $5.7 million dollars with 80 percent funded by the federal government.
Officials say another Maplecrest Road renovation one still in the design phase. It will cover Maplecrest from State to Stellhorn, if all goes to plan work should be completed in 2018.

“I’m encouraged by the tremendous progress we’re making in our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Henry. “By working together, we’re moving Fort Wayne forward in the right direction by implementing effective infrastructure projects that meet the needs of our community. The record-breaking work we’re performing in neighborhoods demonstrates our commitment to improving the quality of life amenities that we offer as we continue to experience positive momentum in our City.”
Eighty percent of the $5.7 million road and streetscape improvements is federally funded, with the remaining 20% coming from the City’s Public Works budget.
