Southern Indiana Man Wounded In Gunfight With Officers

COMMISKEY, Ind. (AP) _ Indiana State Police say a southern Indiana man has been shot during a gunfight with officers.

Sgt. Jerry Goodin says troopers and officers with the Jennings County Sheriff's Office went Wednesday to the home of 38-year-old Robert Matney near the town of Commiskey to serve arrest warrants for intimidation.

Goodin tells WDRB and WLKY that Matney was standing next to his mailbox when officers arrived and ran back into his home, grabbed a gun and fired on them. The officers fired back, and Matney was shot and wounded.

Goodin said it isn't clear if Matney was wounded the officers or by himself. He says Matney was taken to an Indianapolis hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Goodin says Matney allegedly wrote threatening letters to local law enforcement officials, elected officials and others.
