Southwestern Indiana Police Look to Sell Confiscated Weapons

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP): Law enforcement agencies in southwestern Indiana are looking for ways to sell hundreds of confiscated guns to pay for firearms training within their departments.

The Evansville Police Department recently sold almost 150 firearms to Kiesler's Police Supply in Jeffersonville for $25,000 as part of a new policy regarding some seized weapons. The police supply store only does business with law enforcement agencies, so the guns won't be sold to the public.

A police spokesman says the department previously would hold onto guns that were either turned into Evansville police or taken during investigations until a court gave them permission to destroy the firearms.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/1flkvTe ) that the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office is considering adopting a similar policy in order to sell certain confiscated weapons.
