FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The St. Joseph Township Volunteer Fire Department will close on Jan. 1, with the Fort Wayne Fire Department taking over emergency duties.

The News-Sentinel reports the township has a seven-year agreement that will provide full-time fire protection for the township’s 80,000 residents, though just 6,000 of them live outside of city limits.

The township will pay $250,000 per year to the city fore fire services, $50,000 toward the lease of a new fire truck and $12,900 per year for inspection services. Meanwhile, the city will lease the township fire station at $20,000 per year with police service there also.

However, the contract does not impact ambulance service.
