State accepting applications for state-funded pre-K program

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Families from five Indiana counties can now register for a chance to get grants for a state-funded prekindergarten program next school year.

Allen, Jackson, Lake, Marion and Vanderburgh counties are the pilot areas for the On My Way Pre-K program. To be eligible, families must have an income that is 127 percent below the federal poverty line. The child must also be 4 years old by Aug. 1. Applications are due March 5th.

Indianapolis is also offering additional funding through the Indy Preschool Scholarship Program.

Once a family receives a grant, they would be able to choose any of the 225 On My Way Pre-K programs.

More than 2,300 children who will begin kindergarten next August currently are participating in the first full year of On My Way Pre-K.
