(Jeff Bowman/21Alive)

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Indiana State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man by Muncie police officers.

Authorities say 31-year-old Larry Stepp of Muncie was armed with a knife when he was fatally shot Saturday by police responding to a report of domestic violence.

State police say Stepp was standing outside a home when police arrived and confronted the two officers before he was shot.

He was taken to Ball Hospital in Muncie, where he died. State police say he also had a self-inflicted knife wound. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Police say they found a 15-year-old girl inside the home who had been stabbed. She was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

State police say the investigation is ongoing.
