Suspect leads police on 52-mile chase

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WOWO): It took officers from eight police agencies to catch a suspected car thief Friday night.

The Columbia City Police Department tells WOWO news officers got a tip Friday at 6:30pm about a possible sighting of a red Dodge truck that had been reported stolen from a Columbia City car dealer on August 31st.

When officers tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver fled, leading police on a chase that lasted two and a half hours and covered 52 miles in three different counties, including through several corn and soybean fields. Police eventually used “stop sticks” to bring the driver to a stop in Whitley County.

The suspect’s name is being withheld until police are done with their investigation. Nobody was hurt.
