Suspicious House Fire in South Bend Kills Two

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Authorities say a suspicious house fire in South Bend has killed two people.

Police are assisting arson investigators in probing the Saturday morning blaze.

Metro Homicide Commander Tim Corbett says firefighters found flames shooting through the front window of the house when they arrived and pulled out two people.

He says 58-year-old George Bailey died on the scene and 43-year-old Angela Williams died on the way to the hospital. Autopsies are scheduled for next week.

Corbett told the South Bend Tribune and WSBT-TV that investigators have reason to suspect arson or homicide.

A fire department report says the blaze apparently started in the living room.
