MADISON, Ind. (AP) _ Investigators are questioning three males in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old youth in downtown Madison.

Indiana State Police say several people were fighting when a gun went off and the male youth was shot in the abdomen shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday in the historic Ohio River city. The youth later died at a hospital. His name hasn't been released.

They say three possible suspects have been detained for questioning after the SUV that they were riding in was stopped after leaving the scene. The SUV had Kentucky license plates.

Indiana and Kentucky state police are conducting a joint investigation with Madison police. Madison Police Chief Dan Thurston says the victim's family has a relationship with the Madison Police Department.
