POWELL, Ohio (AP): The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is now home to three more big cats.

The zoo says three Amur tiger cubs were born Wednesday night at the zoo and appear to be healthy in a denning area with their mother. This is the second litter of cubs for Irisa, an 11-year-old female who gave birth to a litter last year. With the new additions, the zoo is now home to seven Amur tigers.

The cubs’ father is 8-year-old Jupiter, who arrived at the zoo last year from the Czech Republic through a partnership with the European Endangered Species Program and the Association of Zoos and Aquarium’s Species Survival Plan.

The zoo says less than 400 Amur tigers exist in the Russian Far East and the species is critically endangered.
