UPDATE: FWPD Investigates Possible Accidental Shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): One person is injured after a possible accidental shooting that happened on Fort Wayne's south side.

Crews were called to the 2300 block of Webster street just after 5 p.m. on Friday. When police arrived, they noticed the female victim with a gunshot wound to her leg.

The woman's husband, Larry, told police he had returned home and attempted to open the door with his key. The chain lock was on the door and Larry could not get inside, so he yelled for his wife to unlock the door.

His wife Charity, had been sleeping in the back bedroom. Police reports say she got up and went to the front door with a handgun.

Upon unlocking the front door, the handgun went off and Charity shot herself in the leg.

Larry told police he was unaware that there was a handgun in the house.

Detectives questioned Larry and he was taken into custody. No word on the charges against Larry or his wife's condition.
