VINCENNES, Ind. (AP) _ Officials in a historic Indiana community are working to stay ahead of flooding that’s headed their way.
 
  Crews have put up flood gates to keep the Wabash River out of Vincennes. WTHI-TV reports officials plan to put sandbags in strategic spots.
 
  Knox County Emergency Management Agency Director John Streeter says the city has ordered 15 pallets of sandbags to protect the city limits.
 
  The National Weather Service says the Wabash is projected to crest in Vincennes on Saturday at about 27 feet. That’s nearly 12 feet above flood stage.
 
  The river’s highest crest was 29.33 feet on May 23, 1943.
 
  Vincennes is Indiana’s oldest city and was founded in 1732 as a fur trading post.
