WARSAW, Ind. (WOWO): An apparent domestic dispute has led to a woman being hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the neck and a man in custody.

The shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. Saturday at home on the 1100 block of North Detroit Street in Warsaw. Police responded after hearing reports of a shooting.

Police were initially told that the woman shot herself by accident, according to 21Alive. However, police were later able to determine that Brandon Bellamy, 37, was the shooter. Bellamy had been drinking and police noted that Bellamy and the woman had been arguing for some time before Bellamy said he was leaving. When the woman tried to stop him, he lifted his gun and fired a shot.

Bellamy is in Kosciusko County Jail on a preliminary charge of felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He’s previously been charged with being in possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

21Alive is also reporting the woman was in surgery at a Fort Wayne hospital as of late Saturday and is expected to survive.
