TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ The state highway department has awarded the contract for the final section of the new bypass around Terre Haute, giving the project a fall 2016 completion deadline more than a decade after work started.
 
The Indiana 641 bypass is to go about 6 miles linking Interstate 70 and U.S. 41 around the city's southeast side.
 
State highway department spokeswoman Debbie Calder tells the Tribune-Star (http://bit.ly/1nw86LL) that the $47 million contract for the project's final phase was awarded this week to Beaty Construction Inc. of Boggstown. That phase will including linking the I-70/Indiana 46 interchange into the bypass.
 
Work first started on the $150 million project in 2003 but progress has faced several delays, including termination of a contract with a contractor.
