MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) _ A second man has been convicted in the bludgeoning death of a 69-year-old retired teacher in northern Indiana.
A LaPorte County jury convicted Tre'von Walker on Tuesday in the death of Gerald Peters. He also was found guilty of robber and theft. The South Bend Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1FVLuxK ) that Walker faces a prison term of up to 118 years. Another man, 23-year-old Ryan Phelps, also was convicted in Peters' death and was sentenced to 85 years in prison.
Authorities say Peters was beaten with a baseball bat.
Two co-defendants testified against Walker during the trial. Walker's defense claimed lies were told about Walker's involved in Peters' killing.
The two co-defendants will face robbery charges in exchange for their testimony.
