PAULDING, Ohio (WOWO): The Ohio State Highway Patrol says tailgating led to a fatal three-vehicle crash Sunday morning in Paulding County.

Troopers from the Van Wert Post responded to the scene around 11:41 a.m. on State Route 637 at County Road 138 in Jackson Township.

According to investigators, a northbound pickup truck was following an SUV too closely as the SUV slowed to make a left turn. The pickup swerved left to avoid a rear-end collision, sideswiped the SUV, and entered the southbound lane—where it struck an oncoming motorcycle head-on.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver suffered minor injuries, while the SUV driver was not hurt.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging drivers to avoid distractions and maintain a safe following distance.

Deputies with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, Fire Department, and the County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
