TOLEDO, OH (WOWO) A former Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office detective who once worked on the Dee Warner murder investigation has been arrested as a fugitive in Ohio as prosecutors prepare for trial.

According to WTOL – Kevin Greca, a retired detective, was taken into custody late last week in Lucas County by the U.S. Marshals Service. Authorities say Greca left Michigan to avoid being served with a subpoena requiring him to testify as a material witness in the upcoming murder trial of Dale Warner.

According to court records, a Michigan judge approved a material witness detainer after repeated attempts to locate Greca failed. The warrant alleged that Greca crossed state lines to avoid testifying. A Lucas County judge authorized his arrest, and bond was set at $50,000. Greca is expected to appear in Lenawee County Circuit Court later this week.

Lenawee County Sheriff Troy Bevier confirmed Greca worked on the Dee Warner case during its early stages before Michigan State Police assumed primary jurisdiction. Prosecutors consider Greca a necessary witness whose testimony could be lost without court intervention.

The case centers on the disappearance of 52-year-old Dee Ann Warner in April 2021. Her remains were discovered in August 2024 inside an anhydrous ammonia tank on property owned by her husband, Dale Warner. He is charged with open murder and tampering with evidence, with jury selection scheduled to begin January 27, 2026.

Prosecutors have not disclosed what Greca is expected to testify about. Sheriff Bevier said the need for a material witness detainer in this case is unusual and could have been avoided had Greca cooperated with subpoena efforts.

The case remains pending as pretrial proceedings continue.
