Fort Wayne Warns Residents About Person Impersonating Code Compliance Officer

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  City officials are warning residents to be alert after receiving new reports of someone posing as a Fort Wayne Neighborhood Code Compliance officer and attempting to gain access to homes.

According to the City of Fort Wayne, Neighborhood Code Compliance has received reports of an individual claiming to be a code officer and asking to enter residences to conduct inspections.

The city emphasized that code officers do not perform unannounced interior inspections and residents should not allow anyone claiming to be a code officer into their home without proper verification.

According to city officials, legitimate Neighborhood Code Compliance officers wear clothing displaying the official City of Fort Wayne seal, carry official city identification, and drive clearly marked City of Fort Wayne vehicles.

Residents who are approached by someone claiming to be a code officer without proper identification or a marked city vehicle are encouraged to refuse entry and report the incident.

The City of Fort Wayne advises residents to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department’s non-emergency line at 260-427-1222 to report suspicious activity. Anyone facing an immediate danger should call 911.
