14-Year-Old Dies After ORV Accident in Dekalb County

AUBURN, Ind. (WOWO) — A 14-year-old is dead following an off-road vehicle accident on private property near Auburn.

Indiana Conservation Officers say the crash happened around 6:38 p.m. Tuesday near the 5400 block of County Road 52 in Dekalb County.

According to the initial investigation, the juvenile was operating an off-road minibike when he attempted to avoid a collision with a go-kart.

The juvenile was thrown from the minibike during the maneuver. Investigators say the minibike continued sliding after the teen was ejected, struck the go-kart and then hit the juvenile.

The teen was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Emergency crews performed life-saving measures at the scene, but those efforts were unsuccessful. The juvenile was pronounced dead.

The investigation is being conducted by Indiana Conservation Officers. Officials have not released the juvenile’s name.

The crash occurred on private property, and authorities have not indicated that anyone else was injured.

Conservation Officers were assisted at the scene by the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson Township Fire Department, Parkview EMS, Indiana State Police and the Dekalb County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation remains ongoing.
