FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for attacking his mother with the lid of a toilet tank.
 
       Thirty-six-year-old Jeffery Jenkins had pleaded guilty in November to aggravated battery. Prosecutors say Jenkins attacked his mother in August after she confronted him over his heroin use.
 
       The Fort Wayne man beat his mother with the lid of a toilet tank until it shattered, leaving her bleeding on the floor. He eventually stole her car and ATM card, withdrawing $300 from her account.
 
       Allen Superior Judge Fran Gull said during Friday's sentencing that the crime was “egregious.” Gull said Jenkins was lucky his mother hadn't died that day.
