FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  The Fort Wayne Fire Department fought a late night fire just south of downtown.

Crews arrived to 729 W. Dewald St. around 11:53 p.m. Friday night.  There was no one inside the residence at the time of the fire.  It took 8 minutes to extinguish the kitchen fire and the cause is unknown.

The Red Cross is currently assisting the residents.
