Fort Wayne Woman Among Wildfire Relief Workers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): As wildfires rage in Washington, a Fort Wayne woman is among Red Cross relief workers deployed to help victims.

Julia Bauer is a mental health counselor and she's helping families cope with the stress of the crisis.

The Red Cross says Bauer has served on 24 similar projects. The agency is also teaming with other groups to provide meals for victims and volunteers.

Wildfires have destroyed an estimated 300 thousand acres and 150 homes. About two thousand people have been evacuated.

You can help by going to RedCross.org or calling 1-800-Red-Cross (1-800-733-2767).

The Washington Department of Natural Resources reports that the total cost of resources has already totaled $25 million. The available budget is $19 million. The fires are believed to have sparked as early as July 14.
