Police Solve 1999 Rape Case after Matching DNA Samples

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The man who faced felony charges of rape in 1999 is currently in jail, due to theft charges in Wells County.

The Journal Gazette reports 37-year-old Roger Carlson of Fort Wayne raped a girl he met in a bar 15 years ago. She said Carlson forced her into a truck and raped her in gunpoint.

The Allen County prosecutor's office says DNA evidence was collected from both Carlson and the girl he was accused of raping that night, but the sample wasn't analyzed until 2005.

Police in Fort Wayne were assigned the case in October of 2013 after a report from the Indiana State Police lab that said the sample matched Carlson.

Carlson was brought back to Wells County for his theft case, and that's when the connection was made.
