FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The mother of a teenager who was killed by Fort Wayne police in 2013 sued a few officers in the department.

19-year-old TaVontae Haney was shot down by police in April of 2013 after he fled from a vehicle during a traffic stop near Congress Avenue and Gaywood Drive.

According to the Journal Gazette, Haney's mother sued the city of Fort Wayne, officers John Drummer and Cameron Norris, along with a few others, for subjecting her son to excessive and unreasonable force.

The Allen County Prosecutor justified Haney's death as one of self-defense. No charges were filed in the case.

Witnesses told police the teen dropped the gun and pointed it toward officers during the chase. However, Haney's mother says she spoke to other witnesses who noticed the teen did not point a gun at officers, and raised his hands.

Haney's mother also claims her son was denied proper medical care when he was taken away from the scene.
