Ohio Leaders Aiming to Capitalize on Criticism of Indiana’s RFRA

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ Ohio politicians including U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown are hoping to capitalize on backlash against a religious-objections law in neighboring Indiana that critics say could permit discrimination against gays and lesbians.

Brown joined city officials from Canton, Columbus and Dayton at a Statehouse event Wednesday encouraging Indiana businesses to relocate to Ohio.

Brown, a Democrat, says no one would tolerate a business today refusing to sell to someone who is black, and it shouldn't be tolerated against gay customers.

The Dayton Daily News reports Dayton officials are working to attract companies and individuals looking to leave Indiana because they oppose the new law, touting the southwest Ohio city's recognition for diversity and inclusiveness.

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley says diversity and being welcoming encourages growth.
