Memorial Planned to Honor Slain Fort Wayne Abductee

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) – A memorial is being planned for an 8-year-old Fort Wayne girl who was abducted and killed in 1988.

The News-Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/1NTMS7z ) the Hoagland and Masterson neighborhood association has agreed to do a small memorial for April Marie Tinsley that likely will include a tree, a plaque and a bench.

The memorial will be placed on a lot owned by Jim Obergfell, a member of the association. April lived in and was abducted from the neighborhood on April 1, 1988. Her body was found three days later in a ditch along a rural DeKalb County road. She had been sexually molested and suffocated.

Her killer has never been found.

Obergfell says the association doesn't have a timetable for the memorial yet. It has begun accepting donations for the project.
