ANGOLA, Ind. (WOWO): A Steuben County man pleaded guilty to poaching charges stemming from a 2013 investigation in Angola.
The Indiana Conservation Officer's “Turn in a Poacher Hotline” received a tip that 20-year-old Kyle Schlegel of Hudson was in possession of several illegal, untagged white-tailed deer, that were butchered in his garage.
During the investigation, officers seized an assortment of deer parts and equipment, including two eight point buck heads, venison, deer hides, and ammunition.
Shlegel had shot the deer out of season with a .22 caliber rifle from a pick-up truck at night, using a spotlight throughout western Steuben County. He plead guilty to unlawfully taking the deer and was sentenced to 180 day sin Steuben County Jail.
