State Needs Money for Highway Upkeep

INDOT says they need an additional $200 million per year to properly maintain the state’s highways and bridges.  According to the Journal Gazette, the state’s Transportation Commissioner, Michael Cline, said that money could save $2 billion in more extensive repairs over a 20-year period.  One of the ideas on the table to raise the needed revenue it to raise the state gas tax. Indiana is also one of only a few states that still collect sales tax on gasoline.  Cline said it would help if some of that money were diverted from general state funding to roads.
