CENTERVILLE, Ind. (AP) Eastern Indiana police say two people died in a car fire along Interstate 70 after an occupant lit a cigarette as another person in the car was using medical oxygen.

Wayne County Sheriff Jeff Cappa tells WTHR-TV that two of the car’s four occupants died Sunday after they were unable to get out of the burning car when it stopped and became fully engulfed in flames.

Police have not released their names.

The car’s two other occupants were injured when they escaped from the vehicle, whose driver pulled the car onto a median after the lit cigarette ignited the oxygen.

The fire prompted police to close westbound lanes of I-70 for almost three hours just west of U.S. 35 near the town of Centerville.
