Unemployment Benefits Safe from Sequester

Temporary unemployment benefits will not be on the budget cutting block, at least for now. State officials changed their minds last night to extend benefits, despite a the possibility of federally mandated budget cuts, also known as the sequester. The Journal-Gazette reports that the Department of Work Force Development had announced earlier that benefits might not be spared. About 30 thousand Hoosiers would have been affected. Officials say they were advised by the federal government the aid would remain in place.
