Barn owner: Animal deaths not preventable…

SUMMITTVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ The owner of the central Indiana property where dozens of animal carcasses were found stacked inside a barn says the deaths were not preventable and that some of the animals died four months ago.

Daniel Ault tells WISH-TV  that he became overwhelmed with the number of animals on the property about 40 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson says police found the carcasses of between 75 and 100 animals _ including horses, sheep, cows and chickens _ when deputies were called to one of his barns Tuesday evening. About 30 animals were found alive.

Ault says he loses animals from stress and shipping and that some of the horses died because of bad hay that he had purchased.
