Hammond Woman Sentenced in $1.4M Embezzlement

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) _ A northwestern Indiana woman has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for embezzling almost $1.4 million from her employer and using the money to live a life of luxury.

Linda Lyrla of DeMotte pleaded guilty last year to taking the money from 2001 to 2009 from Alliance Technology Group, a Merrillville company where she had been the bookkeeper.

The Post-Tribune reports Lyrla used the money, most of which is now gone, to buy jewelry, concert tickets, vacations and luxury goods.

She was sentenced Tuesday to 46 months in prison by a federal judge who rejected her request for a term of home confinement. He also ordered her to repay $1.3 million to Alliance Technology and $100,000 to an insurance company.
