Gary Council Member Agrees to Plead to Tax Charge

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) – A Gary City Council member has agreed to plead guilty to failing to file tax returns in 2008 and 2009.
 
A plea agreement filed Monday shows 42-year-old Ronier Scott of Gary has agreed to plead guilty to the charges and faces up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine on each count.  U.S. Attorney David Capp announced the filing of the criminal information on Monday.
 
The plea agreement calls for the U.S. attorney to recommend the minimum sentence under the federal guidelines.  
 
Former council member Marilyn Krusas pleaded guilty in April to tax evasion. She admitted under questioning that she hid a hid a $232,000 inheritance to avoid paying taxes. 
 
She is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 8.
