Fire Guts Elkhart Construction Business

ELKHART, Ind. (AP): A fire that destroyed a northern Indiana construction business set off several explosions from fuel tanks stored inside the building.

The fire gutted the interior of metal building housing Premium Concrete Services in Elkhart.

Fire Battalion Chief Wes Johnson tells The Elkhart Truth that crews arrived Sunday to find the building engulfed in flames. He says firefighters stayed outside because of the propane, oxygen and diesel tanks that were exploding.

No one was injured, but Johnson says he believes the building's contents were nearly totally destroyed.

A company official tells WSBT-TV that it has 16 employees and the owners plan to rebuild.
