Time Change Good Opportunity to Check Smoke Alarms

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The State Fire Marshal's office is reminding Indiana residents that they should change the batteries in their smoke alarms at the same time they change their clocks to daylight saving time.

State Fire Marshal James Greeson says the time change is a good time to check smoke alarms to make sure they are working. So far this year there have been more than 30 fire-related deaths in the state, several of which happened in homes without working smoke detectors.

Greeson says all homes should have at least one working smoke detector. He says smoke alarms should be tested every month.

Indiana switches to daylight saving time at 2 a.m. Sunday.
