Governor Appeals FEMA’s Denial of Assistance for Winter Storms

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Governor Mike Pence is appealing the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s denial of the state’s request for assistance from the severe winter storm that hit January 5th-9th.

On March 6th, Indiana requested federal grants for government and certain non-profit organizations in several Hoosier counties. However, FEMA denied that request earlier this month.

In the Governor’s appeal, he’s requesting aid for the following counties:

Allen, Benton, Blackford, Boone, Carroll, Cass, Clay, Clinton, DeKalb, Delaware, Elkhart, Fountain, Fulton, Grant, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Howard, Huntington, Jasper, Jay, Johnson, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Marion, Miami, Montgomery, Morgan, Newton, Noble, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Rush, Shelby, Sullivan, Tipton, Vanderburgh, Vermillion, Vigo, Wabash, Warren, Wells, White and Whitley.

If approved, public assistance grants would pay 75 percent of eligible expenses including debris and snow removal, emergency protective measures such as search and rescue, and damage to buildings and equipment.
