EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP): Officials in Evansville are offering greater promotion of a restored World War II ship as they try to keep the floating museum at its current Ohio River home.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke spent nearly six hours Thursday with members of the board that oversees the LST-325. Those board members are considering a proposal from Peoria, Ill., to move the ship there.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports Evansville Museum director Mary Bower told the LST board about plans for an exhibit highlighting the ship and new signs about where visitors can see it.

Winnecke says federal rules limit where docks are allowed along the river, but he offered the LST board first rights to the current Tropicana Evansville dock if the casino is ever allowed to move onto land.
