INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana's unemployment rate dropped to 5.7 percent in April as the state marked the ninth straight month that its jobless rate has fallen.
Figures released Friday by the state Department of Workforce Development show Indiana's jobless rate for April fell two-tenths of a percentage point from March's 5.9 percent.
The last time Indiana's unemployment mark was this low was in July 2008, when the state also had a 5.7 percent jobless rate.
Indiana's unemployment rate has now been below the national average for four straight months. April's U.S. jobless rate was 6.3 percent.
Workforce Development Commissioner Scott Sanders says claims for state unemployment insurance in April were nearly 10,000 below April 2013's levels.
He says initial claims and continued claims are now at levels not seen since 2000.
