MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) _ A state lawmaker who sponsored a law adding regulations for motorized scooters says the new rules will make Indiana's roads safer once they take effect in January.
The General Assembly passed legislation earlier this year that includes requiring the operators of all motorized scooters, or mopeds, to register their vehicle.
Republican state Rep. Milo Smith of Columbus says the new rules in the bill he sponsored are “a good step in making the roads safer.''
But Mike McIntire, who owns Cycle Sport Yamaha in Hobart, says that until the new law takes effect, police jurisdictions will continue to enforce the existing law differently.
He tells The Times of Munster the current situation is “such a mess now'' because many police officers don't know what the law is.
