Peru Wants Municipal Power Agency’s 4th Solar Farm

PERU, Ind. (AP) _ A northern Indiana county wants to become the site of Indiana Municipal Power Agency's fourth solar farm.

Miami County Economic Development Authority Executive Director Jim Tidd says the utility plans to construct a 1-megawatt solar farm in a community where it provides electricity. The Kokomo Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1t4D0QU ) Peru is among the 59 communities that Indiana Municipal serves.

Tidd says that if Indiana Municipal chooses to build in Peru, the project would be located on a 6-acre plot owned by Peru Utilities just outside the city limits,

The Miami County Council last week declared its intent to turn that site into an economic revitalization area. That would allow the utility to receive tax abatements.

Indiana Municipal previously selected Richmond, Frankton and Rensselaer as sites for its solar farms.
