VINCENNES, Ind. (AP) _ A southwestern Indiana county commissioner says road crews have made good progress this summer repairing roads damaged by last winter's brutal cold and snow.

Knox County Commissioner Donnie Halter says crews made more improvements to county roads this summer than in more than a decade thanks to nearly $1.5 million in state and local funds.

He tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial (http://bit.ly/1pN7Fjr ) that the county's roads take a beating each year from heavy farm equipment and big trucks.

Highway Superintendent Ron Cardinal says road work will likely continue until mid-November, when local asphalt plants shut down for the season.

He says that if the coming winter is mild, crews will be able to spend the cold weather months planning for next year's roadwork instead of clearing snow from roads and highways.
