Pence Downplays 1st Iowa Visit As Governor

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana Gov. Mike Pence says people shouldn't read too much into his first trip to Iowa as governor.

The state is a key stomping ground for presidential candidates from both parties. Pence is headlining a fundraising lunch Monday for Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad _ a key figure in national Republican politics.

But Pence says his priority is a trade conference of Midwest governors and Japanese leaders which runs Sunday and Monday.

Pence has stoked speculation of a possible White House bid with national appearances recently and support from Washington pundits who have floated his name. But he remains mum on his plans for 2016.
